What We
Are to Be
What does "Christ-centered community" mean?
- It
comes from "The great Commandment": "Jesus said, `Love the Lord your
God with all your heart and soul and mind.
This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these
two commandments." Matthew
22:36-40 (NIV)
- It
means that we are to love God and love each other.
- It
describes people who are making God the center of their lives.
- It
also describes people who are forming interdependent relationships with
each other; who are truly committed to God but also, to each other.
We believe that genuine community is the environment where
the purpose of the church can be accomplished.
What We Are to Do
What does "more and better disciples" mean?
- It comes from the Great
Commission: Therefore
go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the
very end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
- It means we're going to attract
and lead people who are far from God to
a relationship with Jesus Christ and also help them become a part of God's family at
Lighthouse.
- It means we're going to disciple
believers to maturity in Christ. That
is, help them become more and more like Jesus. It means we going to equip and
encourage believers to serve and
minister to others.
- It means that we are going to help
believers discover their part in leading others to Christ.
