Five ways to describe him: Passionate, Gifted communicator. God-Centered. Fun
and Expressive. And as normal as your
next door neighbor (but only if that's a good thing).
What he does for Lighthouse: Art
will be the first to admit that Lighthouse is, and always has been, a team
effort. His leadership has been key,
however, in taking the church from a group of 30 with 1 staff member to a
growing church of 1600 with 20 staff members.
These days, he focuses on the areas in which he excels and gives LCC's fine
pastoral leaders the freedom and encouragement to do what they do best, without
micromanaging them.
The write stuff: Art
has written three books, all published my Multnomah Press: Praying
With the One You Love; Weekend With
the One You Love and Quiet Times With
the One You Love. (Notice any themes
there?) Art has also contributed to a
number of magazines, including his most recent article in PRAY magazine.
What he's earned besides accolades: His
B.A. from University of Washington, his Masters (M.A.) from Western
Evangelical Seminary in Portland, and his Doctorate
of Ministry (D.Min.) from Trinity Evangelical Divinity
School in Illinois.
So what does this alphabet
soup of credentials mean?
a. Nothing,
without love (1 Corinthians 13:2).
b. He really
enjoys studying and learning.
c. He knows
impressive words, but often can't pronounce them.
d. All of the
above.
Family life: Art
has been married to his high school sweetheart, Naomi, for almost 33
years. They are partners in every area
of life. The Hunt's children-Sheri,
Jenny, Jon and Sarah are all grown and the first three are married. They youngest Sarah, will be married later
this year.
His previous life: Art
spent the first two years out of college as a high school English teacher. This has given him a deep empathy for all
school teachers! He has been in pastoral
ministry since 1980.
Things you might not know: Art
and Naomi love to play bridge (the card game, not some weird form of bungey
jumping.) They have been taking ballroom
dancing lessons for two years.
