The Superiority of ChristA study of the letter to the Colossians The Church in Colosse was in an out-of-the way area of Asia Minor, about 120 miles from Ephesus. Though the Apostle Paul had never visited them, his ministry led to Christianity coming to their town. Their faith was constantly challenged because of the many cultures, religions, and philosophies around them. In our a day of moral and philosophical relativism, when many people hold to the idea that “what’s true for you may not be true for me” and “all religions are basically the same,” Colossians sounds a clarion call to a crucial absolute: Jesus is Lord! He is Superior in Thought, Belief and Action. That made a difference in the first century, and it still does today. As we recognize the Preeminence (Superiority) of Christ in everything, then we can live according to that belief. “Belief affects our values, our values affect our behaviors. Join us as we study this short letter to consider how the world of Colosse is like our world today and discover what we can learn about how we can respond to it. |
