Pastor Paul Dawson
As One with Authority
April 27-28, 2024

  • 21They went into Capernaum, and right away he entered the synagogue on the Sabbath and began to teach. 22They were astonished at his teaching because he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not like the scribes.

23Just then a man with an unclean spirit was in their synagogue. He cried out, 24“What do you have to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”

25Jesus rebuked him saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” 26And the unclean spirit threw him into convulsions, shouted with a loud voice, and came out of him.

27They were all amazed, and so they began to ask each other, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” 28At once the news about him spread throughout the entire vicinity of Galilee.

(Mark 1:21-28 - Christian Standard Bible)

  • • Guidance for life.
    • Putting responsibility on “the authority” rather than on ourselves.
    • The desire to be “in authority” over others.

  • • His authority lived out in His own words. See Matthew 4:23.
    • The Apostle Paul and the seven sons of Sceva. See Acts 19:11-16.

  • • Acknowledge it.
Lord, to whom will we go? You have the words of eternal life. (John 6:68)

    • Experience it.
We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God. (John 6:69)

    • Tell others about it.
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect... (1 Peter 3:15 NIV)

  • Because relationship with one another is at the core of being a disciple of Christ, we invite you to find community and experience spiritual transformation through LCC’s groups, classes, events, and service opportunities.
