Pastor Paul Dawson
James 1:22-25 (ESV)
October 26, 2025

  • 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. (James‬ ‭1‬:‭22‬-‭25‬)

    Also consider:
Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it. (Luke 11:28)

  • Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (James 1:22)

  • Some of the most dangerous lies are the ones we tell ourselves - especially the lies we tell ourselves about ourselves.

23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. (James 1:23-24)

But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. (James 1:25)

  • Head knowledge informs us. Heart knowledge transforms us.

Too many Christians mark their Bibles, but their Bibles never mark them. - Warren Weirsbe

  • Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength. (Deuteronomy 6:5)

Love your neighbor as yourself. (Leviticus 19:18)

Forgive as the Father has forgiven you. (Ephesians 4:32)

Bear one another’s burdens. (Galatians 6:2)

Be at peace with one another. (Mark 9:50)

Outdo one another in showing honor. (Romans 12:10)

Let your light shine before others so they might glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)

Stir up one another to love and good works. (Hebrews 10:24)

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. (Ephesians 5:21)

Walk in a manner worthy of your calling. (Ephesians 4:3)

Be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to become angry. (James 1:19)

Beloved, let us love one another. (1 John 4:7)

  • Because relationship with one another is at the core of being a disciple of Christ, we invite you to find community and experience spiritual transformation through LCC’s groups, classes, events, and service opportunities.
