Ephesians 5:18-21 (CSB)
July 20, 2025

18And don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit: 19speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music with your heart to the Lord, 20giving thanks always for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21submitting to one another in the fear of Christ.

Contemporary parallels: Bacchus worship in today's culture
1. Escape through substances and experience
2. Emotion-driven spirituality
3. Self-indulgent individualism
4. Shallow and chaotic community -
To be shaped more by God's Spirit than by our culture.
A life filled by the Spirit of God leads to true community, true connection, and true spirituality.
Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. (Colossians 3:16)
Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. Instead, he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death — even to death on a cross. (Philippians 2:5-8 )
So that the world may know that I love the Father, I do as the Father commanded me. (John 14:31)
For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me. (John 6:38)
Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me — nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done. (Luke 22:42)

STEP 1: Make space.
Create margin in your day for prayer, Scripture, and silence.STEP 2: Identify distractions.
What’s numbing your awareness of the Spirit in your life?STEP 3: Walk with others.
Spirit-filled living isn’t a solo journey. Invite trusted people to pray with you.STEP 4: Practice submission.
Spirit-filled people “submit to one another” (Ephesians 5:21). -
Because relationship with one another is at the core of being a disciple of Christ, we invite you to find community and experience spiritual transformation through LCC’s groups, classes, events, and service opportunities.
